Coronavirus interlude

Well...the builders came back mid February and managed to do a few bits of work before Coronavirus hit in March and everything went on hold again...

Before lockdown, they managed to lower the height of a shelf in the cupboard in the ground floor toilet where the washing machine and drier are stacked, so that I can now reach the controls at the top of the tumble drier without having to stand on a step up.  It's not a proper shelf - just some wood framing the inside of the cupboard forming a ledge wide enough for the tumble drier to stand on.  A bit of a bodge really, but it does the job...Even though they appear to have removed the adjustable feet from the tumble drier and lost them in the process.

They also fitted a socket inside the coat cupboard in the hall where I can plug and and recharge the vacuum cleaner (shown on the tender drawings but not installed with the rest of the electrics) and replaced a single switched socket in the kitchen area, with a double switched socket + USB points (another item not installed in accordance with the tender drawing) so I can now easily recharge the iPad on the kitchen worktop.

The poorly positioned handle on the fire door to the kitchen/diner was taken out and repositioned with a longer latch further from the door frame.  I can now turn the handle without scraping my knuckles on the door jamb!  They have yet to fill the hole where the handle and latch were before or cover the damage with brass finger plates, along with matching finger plates on other ground floor doors to provide some visual continuity - a compromise agreed when the builder declined to replace the whole door.  Plus the intumescent strip still needs to be fitted into the frame to make the door fire proof.  That must be sorted out before Building Control do the final visit.  The missing pin from the brass door hinge has also been replaced.

Last but not least, they have been filling and rubbing down some of the settlement cracks on the first floor and holes/channels created when fixing the unsafe electrics.  Still a few more cracks to fill, but at least I can get on now and paint the loft room, at long last!

That was the sum total of snagging jobs sorted out by the builder before we went into lockdown.  However, I managed to use the coronavirus interlude to make progress in the loft bedroom.  More of that in my next post!
