Monday 25 February
The carpenters have returned to "finish off" upstairs. The MDF wall behind the wash basin in the loft is now all on the same plane, but will need filling and sanding before the area above the tiles can be painted. I'm told this is a decorating job i.e down to me. Not best pleased, as this had previously been a plasterboard wall which just needed a lick of paint, but I don't have the time or energy to argue about it now...
The have also put new timber behind the loft toilet pan, which looks a bit better than before although the area around the flush button needs a bit more work before the whole lot can be painted. Another decorating job for me...
At least the junction of the balustrade and floor joist over the loft stairwell looks a bit better now...
Tuesday 26 February
Dad builder has returned and continued to fill holes...
...above skirting boards and architraves...
....around the reveals of replacement windows in the loft..
....he's also put beads of silicone along the window cills...
....and had a go at smoothing some of the rough plaster around the replacement purlin in the loft
...still lots of rubbing down to make good but its getting there.
Wednesday 27 February
The brother in law of the man in charge has returned and removed building materials and rubbish so the front of the house looks a bit better now. His cleaner has had a go at removing muck on the loft stairs which had not been protected when the builders were working overhead. It appears to be lots of silicone type drips from the adhesive used to stick new plasterboard in place. She's having to scrape each one off with a special flat blade. I told her to go home as 7 pm approached...there are more important things to do in life. It can be finished next week...
...And so ends the baby steps forward on the build front for this week...Next week will be Week 40 of what should have been a 10 week built. To date, the project has last longer than my two pregnancies!
At least I have been able to get out and do a bit of gardening during the three days of early summer before normal weather resumed...
